I think this is an effective YA novel, for a very young adult. It's not very challenging for anyone over the age of 15. The themes are very simple, as is the plot. And though I would have liked it to have gone a further in character development, it was still a compelling read. I was entertained, and it did leave me wanting to know what happens next. I will most likely read the 2nd book and I will encourage my daughter to read this book in a few years.
