I would have liked this book so much more if it were written by a better writer. Don't get me wrong, I did like it, but only because I am kind of a sucker for a romance, so long as it does not have heaving bosoms and/or Fabio on the cover, and it is not written by Danielle Steel. But honestly, the writing was only about a step and a half higher than Ms. Steel. Sara Gruen had a great idea for a story, but unfortunately, she's_just_not_that_good_a_writer. A good friend of mine called it "formulaic and facile", and I tend to agree. Stock characters, stilted dialogue and a corny ending make it hard to forgive, but I guess I am a forgiving reader, because there was something there that I liked. I would like to see the movie. Often times books like these, that fail to go as deep as I'd like them to, make great films.
